Our first Strathearn Prep Science Week has been filled with collaborative work, creative thinking and inspirational speakers. All of the girls, from Prep 1 to Prep 7, have participated in various workshops and lessons including microbiology investigations, robotics activities, research tasks, seed planting, and dissolving dilemmas.
Having spoken to so many of the girls this week, I am delighted to observe an enthusiasm and passion for STEM subjects. Women account for under 30% of the STEM workforce; one of the main reasons for holding Science Week was to inspire our girls to become future STEM specialists. As a staff, we have been impressed by the girls’ inquisitive thinking and enthusiastic participation in our Science Week activities. We know that the girls really enjoyed being mini scientists and engineers this week –they certainly looked the part in their lab coats and safety goggles!
